Start with data exchange
Identify the source, destination, data owner, and when changes should propagate. Avoid exposing a whole database when a bounded endpoint is sufficient.
Prepare appropriate access
Gather documentation, sandbox access, authentication methods, quotas, non-sensitive sample payloads, and a system owner contact. Never send API keys through a website form.
Agree on failure handling
Discuss timeouts, duplicates, format changes, retries, and reconciliation. Acceptance should cover failures as well as successful responses.
Connect this to implementation
Review Systems & API Integration, then share a brief workflow description. Endpoints, scheduling, provider costs, and monitoring become part of the scope.
